Publisher's description of Audacity 1.2.2
From Audacity Developer Team:This editor can record and play sounds and import and export WAV, AIFF, MP3, and OGG files. Edit your sounds using cut, copy, and paste features (with unlimited undo functionality), mix tracks, or apply effects to your recordings. The program also has a built-in amplitude-envelope editor, a customizable spectrogram mode, and a frequency-analysis window for audio-analysis applications. Built-in effects include bass boost, wah wah, and noise removal, and the program also supports VST plug-in effects. This program is open-source, and this version adds tool tips, keyboard shortcuts, and OGG exporting and fixes some bugs.
Version 1.2.2 has a Meter Toolbar added for monitoring volume levels during playback and recording, allows you to export multiple files at once, attempts to automatically correct latency in full-duplex recordings, and contains some bug fixes.

- "Edit tracks on the cheap"
With so many audio editors out there, finding the right tool for the job can be tricky. The multiplatform, open-source editor Audacity has leaped to the top of our list with its clean interface, excellent features, and support for 32-bit floating-point audio. Audacity succeeds at being both feature-rich and flexible, while keeping the toolbar and work space uncluttered. It does this by relegating most functions--such as effects, edits, and project management--to handy drop-down menus.
Audacity supports uncompressed audio standards such as WAV and AIFF in addition to OGG and MP3 files. A full complement of basic effects such as reverb, delay, and compression are included. Virtual Studio Technology (VST), Linux Audio Developers Simple Plugin Architecture (LAPSDA), and Nyquist plug-ins also are available if you're looking to expand. Another eye-catching feature is the Beat Analyzer, which helps you peg the beats per minute of a phrase.
The performance of most functions is quick--even CPU-hogging tasks such as exporting to MP3 or adding complex effects. Though Audacity doesn't offer advanced effects or features out of the box, its usability and price set this freeware wonder above the crowd.

"Bow down, this software is king!"
Pros: Perfect for podcasting. I can edit 4 audio tracks so I can save it as one. My radio show is so much better now that I have this program.
Cons: I hate it how I have to download a DLL just to do mp3 converting. But I cheat so I convert to wav then use a seperate program.

Version: Audacity 1.2.2
"Thank you Audacity! (Great Name!)"
Pros: It does what I was looking for. I needed an editor that would convert MP3 files to wavs. Also needed to be able to cut, paste, mix etc. Most of the programs, either give you a ridiculously small time to use it. One program had the audacity (pun intended) to allow 1 minute. Or you have to pay for the program in order to save, OR they will only convert either 50% to 80% of the file. I had ALMOST given up and decided to come back and search one more time. I can't believe it's FREE!!! From a woman who is disabled and living on a fixed income, this is so VERY helpful. Thank you and bless you!
Cons: None.

Version: Audacity 1.2.2
"Great free audio editing product"
Pros: This is a great product for editing sound files. It has all the features I was looking for, including very straightforward timeline editing and all the basic needs, like the ability to fade in/out and change the tempo.
Cons: Some important interface elements are missing. For example, you can't key in an exact time to navigate to (i.e., mm:ss). You have to use the mouse cursor, which can be inaccurate.

Version: Audacity 1.2.2
Pros: This is PERFECT for what i needed it for.
Slowing down music without changing the sound to that very deep bassy mess that most programs do.
Cons: This is a fairly simple program, doesnt have alot of features, very simple interface, and you need to download seperate thing to export files as mp3.
