Version: Cactus Spam Filter 2.01
"Pretty good spam filter - give it a try!"
Pros: I have several email accounts to monitor that receive 200+ spams a day. Now my mail box is almost completly spam free. As donationware, you can try it for no cost. Overall, this product is *much* better than SpamKiller from McAfee which has a lot of issues with it.
Strongly consider trying out Cactus Spam Filter if you have problems with spam. Despite it's flaws, it has worked great and won't slow your computer to a crawl.
Cons: The installation and setup was a bit rough. You can't train the filter if you use Outlook, so you've got to import your messages to Outlook Express and then copy them into a certain folder. Once copied, you go to the "Training Arena" and start marking messages as spam or good. I dumped 900 messages into the folder, and it got pretty accurate after 100 good and spam messages. Training took about 1.5 hours, but the last 100 were properly marked with no false positives or unflagged spam.
If you're not a very tech savvy person, it might be difficult to get this product up and running. I'd like to see a wizard interface and better integration with Outlook.
Since this product worked well overall, I downloaded the Outlook toolbar beta from the publisher's web site. A non techie using WinXP and Outlook2003 might want to go this route and then train emails as they come in. It will take a while to become accurate at flagging spam, but the whole process would be MUCH easier.

Version: Cactus Spam Filter 2.01
"Slightly Flawed but otherwise Excellent"
Pros: I downloaded Cactus Spam Filter because of the great reviews I read here at Download.com. Installation was incredibly quick and painless, even a novice user wouldn't have a problem here.
I'm using CSF with Outlook 2000, and as such the training is a little more complex than with Outlook Express, however, the process is clearly explained and easily executed. Cactus works excellently, without adware/spyware, is free of charge and doesn't pester you with constant requests to register.
Alt-click the icon the the system tray and select "I like it" to donate if you like it, or don't if you don't want to, it's entirley up to you.
Cons: My first installation was a breeze, as detailed above, however; the program had some pretty major flaws at first that required me to remove the prog via Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, and then reinstall, which seems to have prevent the errors again.
I was recieveing an error message everytime I booted XP, and another upon shut down.
As I said the problem disappeared after a five-minute (start to finish) reinstallation.
Excellent Prog!
