Editor's review of Comodo Firewall Pro

- "Comodo Pro: For amateurs, too"
Comodo Firewall Pro gets a major revision from its publisher, upgrading to Version 3 with some significant changes. Most importantly, user complaints about resource hogging when Version 2 came out have been all but eradicated with the new model.
The program still provides a smorgasbord of information and options for advanced users, but it's simple enough for beginners, and runs smoothly and silently in the background. The most obvious new features include support for Windows Vista at the expense of Windows 2000 support, although the older v2.4 with Windows 2000 support is still available.
The other big change is the new interface. This new UI isn't exactly an improvement on the old one. However, the blue color scheme has been toned down in favor of basic white, and there's more empty space between the various options. Old terminology has been replaced with more intuitive terms. The new main tabs are Summary, Firewall, Defense , and Miscellaneous. In each, though, there are links to relevant security issues so users can drill down to learn more about how the firewall is performing.
There's a new feature called the Host Intrusion Prevention System that supposedly protects against unknown threats. Obviously, it's hard to tell if it works unless an unknown threat gets in, but it didn't seem to affect system performance negatively. Mostly, Comodo rears its head most often soon after installation when Security Alerts ask about new Internet connections as the program "learns" your computer's behavior.
Don't be fooled by the name, either. Comodo is labeled Pro but it offers up its dragon-sized treasure of features for free.

Version: Comodo Firewall Pro 3.5.57173.439
Pros: Seems to be complete, works fine, pretty easy to set up.
Doesn't slow down the system and didn't cause any problems.
Remembers what you told it.
Has a good 'users forum.'Cons: Fairly big footprint (disk and to a lesser extend memory), has two processes, docs not very clear about the various features.
Summary: I've tried about 6 or 8 firewalls and this was the only one that I preferred over the old Sygate Pro.

Version: Comodo Firewall Pro 3.5.57173.439
Pros: It learns what you programs do when they are run. It use very little CPU even when downloading a large P2P file. Nice you interface. The trusted software vendor is a plus.
Cons: Uses a bit more system RAM, then my old firewall. Can not hiding the system tray icon.
Summary: This is a a good firewall, plus with the trusted software vendor rule; any software that you use and the vendor digitally sign it you will not need to reset the rules or say yes to allow. Would like to able to hide the system tray icon, but that ma... read more >>

Version: Comodo Firewall Pro 3.5.57173.439
Pros: + Customizeable for the people who know how (like me!)
+ Has modes for people who dont know much about computers
+ Light on system resources
+ Shows which programs are using how much bandwidth
+ It simply works wellCons: - With the newer versions, it crashes GameGuard in the MMO i play, so I have to use an older version, version 3.0.13
-Could have more 'eye-candy', such as how much bandwidth used in a day/month/average of a program, etc.Summary: It just.. works fine! ^-^
I've tried a LOT of other firewalls, and this one seems to be the best for people on dialup / low end compys because it's light on resources.. And doesnt interfere with many programs.. doesnt crash.. etc. -
Version: Comodo Firewall Pro 3.5.57173.439
Pros: it does its job well and it is easy to use. worked straight away no fussing about as far as i remember.
Cons: a few more allow request boxes than i would like but it keeps my pc clean so i dont mind.
Summary: dont listen to the few reviews i read- of course it wont work with vista 64 bit if you want 64bit computing that works dont buy windows. It is not hard to set up all i seem to remember doing was putting in an ip address for my wireless router.
