- "Comodo Pro: For amateurs, too"
Comodo Firewall Pro gets a major revision from its publisher, upgrading to Version 3 with some significant changes. Most importantly, user complaints about resource hogging when Version 2 came out have been all but eradicated with the new model.
The program still provides a smorgasbord of information and options for advanced users, but it's simple enough for beginners, and runs smoothly and silently in the background. The most obvious new features include support for Windows Vista at the expense of Windows 2000 support, although the older v2.4 with Windows 2000 support is still available.
The other big change is the new interface. This new UI isn't exactly an improvement on the old one. However, the blue color scheme has been toned down in favor of basic white, and there's more empty space between the various options. Old terminology has been replaced with more intuitive terms. The new main tabs are Summary, Firewall, Defense , and Miscellaneous. In each, though, there are links to relevant security issues so users can drill down to learn more about how the firewall is performing.
There's a new feature called the Host Intrusion Prevention System that supposedly protects against unknown threats. Obviously, it's hard to tell if it works unless an unknown threat gets in, but it didn't seem to affect system performance negatively. Mostly, Comodo rears its head most often soon after installation when Security Alerts ask about new Internet connections as the program "learns" your computer's behavior.
Don't be fooled by the name, either. Comodo is labeled Pro but it offers up its dragon-sized treasure of features for free.

Version: Comodo Firewall Pro 3
Pros: Great at what it does. Has a nice interface. Passes penetration tests with flying colors and it's free. It's extremely light on resources and loads fast. It's stable and a real work horse. Keeps you safe but its a pain in the rear end because it's like me, I'm an older man and my memory isn't what it used to be. Seems this dragon has no memory!
Cons: But, it's a pain in the rear. It asks over and over and over, Seems it has a bad memory or no memory at all. Even it you manually create a rule for a web address or a program, Set *** to allow, it continues to ask and ask. Once, if ever the memory issue is addressed, it will be the very best firewall available, bar none, paid or free for all Windows operating systems.

Version: Comodo Firewall Pro 3
"Non-intrusive, light on resources."
Pros: I downloaded this firewall and used it for about an hour and it was doing what it says it does. With a very easy interface, very low resource usage (a lot lower than ZoneAlarm), this firewall is my first favorite. It is also less annoying than ZoneAlarm, and runs smoothly. It hasn't crashed on me yet, and it works very well on my pc. It's also free of charge, which is one of the greatest benefits!
Cons: Nothing yet, hopefully there are no cons to this in the future.

Version: Comodo Firewall Pro 3
Pros: Easy to install with good options. Not difficult to configure. Works like a dream with hardly any use of the CPU. Doesn't slow down P2P applications. Pop up warnings seem to dissapear after a short time once the firewall has got used to your PC settings and applications (unlike Zone Alarm). Probably the best free firewall you will ever find.
Cons: None.

"Just downloaded this a couple of days ago"
Pros: doesn't seem to adversely affect computer operation thus far. Have no way to really test effectiveness. People that are much smarter than I feel that it keeps the bad guys out. I just have to trust them. I guess all this means that if it keeps the bad guys away and doesn't noticeably encroach on your use of your computer, it must be a good thing.

Version: Comodo Firewall Pro 3
Pros: I'd give it four and a half if I could, but it may be worth a five in the next week or so when they release an update to address some of the issues. That said, it is worth the install and is better than any other firewall I have used (ZA and sKPF). Reminds me of the old Sygate firewall.
Cons: It's an early GA release and is still a little quirky, especially with Defense+. But I have no problem with a little quirky-ness, after all I use Windows.
