- "Powerful, flexible photo editor"
Despite a slightly annoying installation process, version X2 (read: 12) of Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo continues to offer the same high performance and full feature set of earlier editions. The digital image-editing program will fit the needs of many photographers and designers.
A well-designed and intuitive interface offers easy access to all of your digital images, and the individual components--such as tool selectors, palettes, and layer windows--can be dragged and dropped anywhere on the screen. Excellent one-click photo adjustments such as Smart Photo Fix or One Step Noise Removal will be godsends for photographers with busy schedules.
One of the most noticeable updates in X2 is the new graphite workspace theme, which gives the app a slick, 21st century look. A tabbed interface makes switching between photos a breeze, and the library organizer is available as either a palette tool or another tab in the image browser.
The organizer is one of the strongest features of Paint Shop Pro Photo, and a new Express Lab feature makes batch editing even easier. We did notice a CPU slowdown when using the organizer with large libraries, but otherwise the application was quite stable, even when editing very large BMP files. A new Learning Center provides contextual help for specific features, but we found searching the regular help topics to be more informative.
The installation is the most disappointing part of the trial. It requires registering for a free Corel account, which in turn requires a valid e-mail address. Adobe uses the same practice, but it's an annoying trend. You should also note that within the "Advanced" installation setting, Paint Shop Pro Photo is automatically set to become the default application for all your major image-file formats.
Once you get Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 installed and working on your machine, you'll find a very powerful photo editor and organizer that is quite easy to learn and use. A full 30-day trial gives you plenty of time to determine whether or not you'd like the full version.

"Problematic with other softwares"
Pros: Easy to use and has very useful features.
Cons: Conflicts with other programs, especially media (mp3, dvd, avi etc..) players.

"The best second step photo editing software, period"
Pros: Said second-step because once the photo has been rapidly fixed with a program like ACDC pro which has a unique 9bar light equalizer and a great exposure control panel PSP can do the rest. Great noise filters,selection tools and JPEG optimization.
Cons: Agree with other reviews that Text creation and handling is still the worst (separate window). No big differences in last three versions. Very slow but powerful skin smoothing, depending on the photo quality sometimes it cannot find skin areas.
Summary: Definetly the program to use if you donīt want to waste your time waiting for processes in Photoshop. If you need plugins, it will take most of the ones written for PS. Have been retouching commercial photographs since the original Jasc program and ... read more >>

"Great product and it is worth the money"
Pros: light weight and easy for noobs and complex for the pros
Cons: only 1 because if you already have psp 7 you may want to question whether you really need this updated version.
Summary: improvements plus some other changes that are totally worth getting used to make this a great product once again.

Pros: This is the best image editing program, 1/4 the price of it's competitor!
Cons: They should've removed the organizer. Who uses the organizer anyway?
Summary: If you are on budget. Paint shop pro is the answer. Period. It does 98% of what PS does.

"Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 - the best!"
Pros: Have owned every edition of Paint Shop Pro since the early Jasc days when it was downloaded shareware. When Corel bought out Jasc they made some good improvements and a couple of questionable changes, but PSP is still the best for the money!
Cons: Only complaint is the complex text-on-photo/graphic feature. Should be much simpler, easier. I usually switch to MS Digital Image Suite 2006 for putting text on photos/graphics -- very easy, very flexible, a snap.
Summary: Photoshop too expensive, complex, & cumbersome. Paint Shop Pro is reasonably priced, easy to use (except the text feature); it does just about everything I need it to do. I've used it since the mid-1990's -- every new edition. And I use it ev... read more >>
