Publisher's description of HTTPort
From Technology Networks:HTTPort creates a transparent tunnel through a proxy server or firewall. This allows you to use all sorts of Internet software from behind the proxy. It bypasses HTTPS and HTTP proxies, transparent accelerators, and firewalls. It has a built-in SOCKS4 server. It supports strong traffic encryption, which makes proxy logging useless, and supports NTLM and other authentication schemes. Version 3.SN features privileged status and faster access for registered users.
Version 3.SNF adds a smarter retry feature, which makes HTTPort more resistant to proxy counter measures and the connections more stable.

Version: HTTPort 3.SNF
"It's exactly what I looked for"
Pros: If you network is restricted by the firewall and you have a computer outside permanently connected to the internet this program is what you need. You can get off all restrictions with it: use ICQ at work, browse restricted sites, use you mailbox, play games.
It's light, it works and it's free. It's the first free software of this kind I saw which worked well enough.
1- You need to setup or find a server program (HTTHost) on the outside computer which have an unlimited access.
2- Then you have to configure the client part (HTTPort) on your restricted computer so that it can connect to the outside computer.
3- You have to configure you favourite software to connect to HTTPort instead of making direct connection.
4- You configure HTTPort client to be ready to accept connexions from your software.
In resumé: your software will connect to HTTPort which will forward requests to the outside computer trough autorised connexion. The outside computer will execute your requests trough unlimited connexion and send back the result.
Cons: You need quite a good knowledge in networking to setup it. I promise, it works.
Don't give up but try to understand better how it works.

"An awesome tool! Not for rookies."
Pros: It does what it promisses in a great way! You can access ANY website blocked by your provider's (or company's) firewall. My company blocks some good sites and once in a while I need access to them. To surf anonymously I also registered for a remote proxy server ($5.95 month) and the performance is great. This service is optional as you can create your own proxy server or connect to some free ones. Well, you get what you pay for, so don't expect great things from a free proxy server. I suggest you set your own up at home (if feasible) or pay to access one, like I did.
All I can tell you it works like a charm!
Cons: Not for rookies!! You need to understand what you're doing. Also, the explanations aren't that great. I consider myself a very experienced computer user and even I had a bit of hard time understanding what had to be done. In my case, I had to enter a port mapping to make it work. That was NOT written anywhere and I had to figure this out by myself.
Also, error messages in the connection log are useless to users.
I can see why people complained about this tool in the previous reviews, but some of the statements are not accurate, since this tool DOES work. You just must know what you're doing. Plus, if you connect to a junky free proxy server, things can get even harder. Once you set this baby up, though, you can browse anything you want and your boss thinks you can't do a thing! Love it. Hey, just don't get caught or killed if you live in a government oppressive country ;-)
