4.0 stars
- "Down to the wire"
From its start as a post-Napster clone to its leading role as the quintessential Gnutella client, LimeWire has been one of the highest-profile P2P applications. The 4.0 series further ups the ante with a combination of new features, an updated interface, and better all-around performance.
On the surface, the refined and zippier Java interface houses some snazzy new icons and a few new features, including a connection-quality meter and a button matrix for zeroing in on specific file types. The search interface now sports a progress bar, and file information--such as artist and album--is more clearly displayed. The improved network performance gave us considerably more search results than previous versions and a more reliable downloading experience (for a P2P client, that is). This latest version also feels more nimble despite its inherently resource-heavy Java-based foundation. We like the What's New feature, which lists files recently added to the network. The check box to filter out adult content also is a nice touch.
The new features and overall functionality make this by far the most mature version of LimeWire to date. Despite the typical performance flaws found in all file-sharing clients, this latest version continues to offer solid performance and good looks across the board.

Version: LimeWire 4.10.5
"Lightning fast searches and downloads"
Pros: LimeWire has TONs of search results, TONS of hosts, and lightning fast downloads. I don't know about the speed for dialup users, but with broadband you can download 50 popular songs in about 10 minutes or less. Some songs take less than 10 seconds! You can also chose which host has the fastest connection to download from. T3 is the fastest, followed by T1, Cable/ DSL, and Modem.
Cons: Software sharers beware! There are many viruses showing up in the software files. Stay away from these five....they are all viruses. Files with 851.1, 765.5, 424.3, 69.4, and 0.0 I haven't noticed this in the music files at all, but the software files are loaded with these file sizes.

Version: LimeWire 4.10.5
Pros: Totally free software. Limewire grants you access to stuff other people have and are sharing. The downloads are pretty quick and do not interfere with browsing speed. You can find almost anything on Limewire. You should definitely get it. Limewire makes it easy to identify viruses and has a smart junk filter. Once you mark a certain file as junk, it atomatacally rates others like it. It is about 98%accurate.
Cons: Lots of viruses. They are easy to identify however. Do not download files with size:
851.7Kb or 69.4Kb or 0.00Kb
These are all viruses and trojans. Also, pay attention to the junk files.

Version: LimeWire 4.10.5
"Good program, however Cabos (built off Limewire) is better."
Pros: Its free.
It has no adware/spyware.
It searches the GNUtella network.
Its the most well-known name in P2P.
Its built on Java, the scode base known to make the biggest resource hogs known to man.
Cons: It filters illegal content to my knowledge. Get Frostwire if you want a client that looks exactly like Limewire without the filtering.
Go get Cabos if you love Limewire a lot. Its built off the Limewire core, gives you a great iTunes-looking interface, and has no filtering of ANY content which Limewire does.

Version: LimeWire 4.10.5
Pros: Limewire returns search results very fast and has excellent download speeds.
Your average to well known files get a good amount of sources very quickly upon your search and it does come up with a few rare files too if you have some patience with the search.
The downloads themselves are at brilliant speeds, and I think the latest version of limewire has somehow allowed for increased speed as I am noticing files that would previously have gone at 20kb/s on my connection are reaching up to 100kb/s since I installed the latest version.
The interface is nice with user skinning options too.
Start up time has definitely improved and memory hogging is a lot less severe than in earlier releases.
It is not bundled with viruses or adware upon install (but please note my cons for where these things could come up in your use of the client).
Limewire is still a solid and fast P2P client which improves version to version.
Cons: Despite limewire's clean install, there are still advertising & virus files from the network returned in every search, so I would advise all users to be very careful with downloads.
The 'sponsered results' are clearly labelled so easy to notice as ads, but some virus files are less obvious and can only really be noted by their file size.
Mostly the false files are under 1mb in size and the most common ones tend to be 134kb and 800kb.
Just watch out for these naughty files on the network as it could ruin your limewire experience.
