  • "Message with Miranda"

Miranda IM lacks the slick design of most IM programs, but makes up for it by supporting most IM programs in one fully customizable package. It's easy to add your various IM accounts--including AIM, Yahoo, ICQ and MSN--and you'll have the same icons and status messages for each program. You can even manage the personal information for all your accounts from one central control panel.

Miranda IM's plain, gray instant-messaging window offers just the basics for typing and viewing messages; you won't find the text formatting options, emoticons, or links that a program like Yahoo Messenger offers. You will find numerous options to customize how chat or IM windows behave, including a handy option to have messages from a specific person always appear in the same location on your screen. You also can assign hot keys for a few actions like opening the program or reading a message.

Miranda IM is offered as freeware. You'll give up some of the unique features of your IM programs, but Miranda IM allows you to conveniently monitor and manage many of your chat and messaging programs in one place.

"Its too good to be true"

by dragonquest on August 1, 2006

Pros: I love simplicity. And that's just what Miranda IM is, simplicity. Its a 1MB download, and still it supports ICQ, Jabber, AIM, MSN, Yahoo and IRC. So you don't have to download multiple clients. Another fantastic thing about it, is its loading time. It blazes, since its so small. The interface is quite clean. And you even have a number of add-on's to increase its functionality.

Cons: It does not have built in smiley's but that can be done using a simple add-on. The only real drawback it has is its inability to support multiple IRC server sessions.

    "You gonna love it!!"

by dyohanan on September 1, 2006

Pros: It is amazing and only 1 Mb. You no need all that stuff and publicity that other IMs have.

    It's smaller, faster, easier!

Cons: There is no MAC version =(

    "Simple with Amazing Plugins"

by snapcore on August 15, 2006

Pros: Miranda is a simple client with many features. It's very stable and wastes very little memory. It's very versatile because you can download a number of add ons created by their community to enhance your experience. Also, they have a great community willing to help you if you have any problems.

Cons: Not all plugins are stable, but that can't be expected.

"A great little no-frills chat client"

by Misterphilco on August 11, 2006

Pros: This is a tiny, handy little client. Its capabilites are amazing - you can connect to multiple chat services (yahoo, msn, aim, irc, etc.) without eating too much into system resources. My available RAM counter hardly flickers when I run this programme.

Cons: None whatsoever - if you want a clean, simple chat client which supports multiple accounts then this is a serious option. If you need smilies you can (apparently) get them via an add-on - I never bothered to check this out myself.

For me, this is better than Trillian, from the view-point of program size, simplicity and system resources.

    "nice and clean"

by maullin on August 15, 2006

Pros: I hate "busy" screens with stupid skins and crap popping out every which way. Miranda is a nice, clean chat client that works flawlessly. Surprisingly, the IRC part is a very nice, fully functional item, too, not just a second thought add on.

Cons: No matter what chat program my friends and relatives use, Miranda covers it seamlessly, _except_ Google chat, which a few people I know use. I wouldn't mind seeing Google as part of Miranda
