- "Powerful, free text editor proves beauty is skin deep"
Once you explore the power of NoteTab Light, you may find this text editor beautiful despite its hectic interface. At its core, NoteTab Light is to Windows' Notepad as an iPhone is to a rotary phone. NoteTab Light incorporates top-level tabs similar to most Web browsers, so that you can manage several different projects at once, and it can automatically replace Notepad so that Notepad's icons open NoteTab instead--although not in Windows Vista.
However, it's more than a mere replacement. The left column displays a list of commands, called Clips, that do anything from inserting bits of text to generating code. Each library, the roster of which appears as tabs at the bottom of the screen, contains its own set of clips. The FTP library, for example, lets you create server profiles, connect, upload and download files, and issue various commands. The HTML library auto-completes HTML tags. The publisher's site offers many user-created libraries, or you can make your own. You can create your own clips by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F2.
Several of the clips, including the Tidy HTML clip and the TopStyle library, require secondary freeware apps to support them, but NoteTab will direct you to their Web pages if it finds them missing. NoteTab Light isn't a tool for casual users, but power users and programmers should find plenty to love.

Version: NoteTab Light 5.7
Pros: I haven't used all the functions available yet, and I am bery happy with it!

Version: NoteTab Light 5.7
Pros: I've tried all of the major Text Editor options and keep coming back to NoteTab. It's simple if you want it to be; robust if need it to be. It's tabbed and you can search across tabs. Low memory usage. Easy to associate with any file type you want.
Cons: I honestly can't think of anything I dislike about NoteTab Light.

Version: NoteTab Light 5.7
"HTML wonder-tool - I never use anything else"
Pros: Easy to save templates - own clipbooks simple to construct - large changes, often across many files, made easy - rarely anything difficult to understand - beats the pants off DreamWeaver for HTML development; you can have all your files available whilst you work.
Cons: Some complex undo's not possible whilst others are.
I would occasionally like to visualise invisible characters - paragraph, new line, etc (probably impossible in a text-based editor)
(These are only tiny niggles, easily surmountable.)

Version: NoteTab Light 5.7
"Truly powerful windows text editor"
Pros: This is a remarkably feature-rich and highly reliable text editor. It is an excellent replacement for notepad and can do much more. I believe that there are better programmer's editors and perhaps better HTML and XML editors, but as a general purpose Windows oriented text editor, this one is the most impressive I've seen.
Cons: One niggling point - I liked the old print page setup better. It allowed more font size choices and could be invoked directly from the print dialog box.

Version: NoteTab Light 5.7
Pros: I use this every day to join lines, change the case in text and a few other things.
If you install html tidy, it will check your html code and correct it. I am looking forward to the upgraded tag stripping facility.
It works and it's free - great!
