Getting in touch with friends and family is easy with this Internet telephone software, but the functionality is conditional. Skype offers a graphically pleasing interface that's much like a chat program. To make calls, you'll need to create a contact list of friends and family or use the phone-like interface to dial people directly. You also can access a pull-down menu for painless conference calls of up to four people. To make free calls, both parties will need to have the Skype software installed. To call regular phones, you'll need to sign up for a plan with SkypeOut, the developer's paid service that offers cheap by-the-minute calling. We like the intuitive chat-like interface of Skype and we were surprised at the excellent sound quality, even with regular desktop speakers. Similar to a chat client, you can set your availability status, but we also would like to see a missed call indicator or, better yet, some form of voice mail. Overall, we think Skype is a strong contender in the Internet Telephony category, and anyone who's interested in talking for free should give it a try. For international callers who have computers, this program is a no-brainer solution for long-distance bills.

  "Cool little program."

  Pros: Nice interface. Easy to use. Good sound quality. Who needs the telephone? Good to keep in touch with long distance friends and family without the expenses. Cheap PC to phone service.

  Cons: Need video calls and video conferencing. It's the Internet afterall. Need to find missed calls.

  "It's the future of voice communication!"

  Pros: This is the best VOIP telephone services that I've ever used. Clear voice quality, stable connection and it doesn't lag over low band connections. Use to contact relatives and friends from all over the world. Works just like traditional telephone but much better.

  Pros: I love it it is easy to use, fun, great voice quality, very short delay, customizable, easy to install and all around great. It is fast, clean and works juat as good if not better than said

  Cons: Should have video chatting and not alot of people use SKYPE that i know. Apart from that there are no cons in the software or how it works etc.

  "Truely outstanding software"

  Pros: Crystal clear internet free telephoney - what more could you want? All options are there if you are willing to spend that little extra but it is well worth the money. I use it fine, and have done for months when i play games with my mate. We can talk to eachother and coordinate strategies brilliantly - all with excellent sound quality.

  "Outstanding Voice Quality"

  Pros: Great sound quality, sounds like talking on the phone. I make calls from the US to India, and its like talking on a fixed line phone. The voice quality is better than by Cingular mobile phone.

  Cons: Nothing really. A weird thing is that chat messages get arbitrarily delayed and you get them hours later.
