Publisher's description of X-Plane 6.05
From Laminar Research:X-Plane is a realistic flight simulation that supports 3D terrain and elevation maps. It includes a physics modeler that can simulate various weather conditions, as well as advanced technologies such as dynamic speech synthesis; hardware-accelerated, texture-mapped graphics; OpenGL support (see card requirements below); serial-port output to drive cockpit instruments; motion systems; and moving maps. Other features include a variety of runway surfaces, oil rigs with helipads, and full rendering of other air traffic for formation flying. Cockpit textures, plane textures, and sounds are all customizable.
Version 6.05 offers several enhancements, including higher resolution graphics; the airplane's redraw speed is now faster; dozens more cockpit instruments; dynamic cities that show lights on in the buildings at night; cars that use their turn signals; and ambulances racing to save the day.
Note: This download functions as a demo or as an updater to the X-Plane CD. If you do not have the X-Plane CD, joystick support will cease after five minutes.
