New York transplants and old college buddies DJ Wool and Dominique Keegan traded their school books for mics and studio gear in favor of creating decidedly dirty, electro-leaning pop songs reminiscent of Stereo MCs back in the day. A moody edge, contrasted against an obvious knack for funk, makes The Glass clearly one to watch.
Comprised of two members, Dominique Keegan and Glen Brady, The Glass was set up as a studio based production team that evolved into a live band over the past year. The Glass also now features Leah Shapiro on drums and Kap 10 Kurt and/or Dominic Bouffard on bass. Keegan and Brady, both originally from Dublin, Ireland have been living and working in New York for years. Both were in College in Dublin together where they played in a live seven piece hip hop band with Glen on the mic and Dominique on Bass. (Their roles have now been somewhat reversed, with Dom on vocals and guitar and Glen on beats, keys, backing vocals, samples and scratches). Both went on to become DJs with Glen winning the Irish DMC championships in 1998 and Dominique throwing the infamous Plant parties in New York from 1997 to the present. Dominique also owns Plant Music and used to own the now defunct Plant Bar in downtown New York. Glen is also the voice and writer/producer behind ‘Itchy Revolutions’
The Glass was formed by the two in an effort to blend the world of pop vocals and indie dance production. Their first single ‘Won’t Bother Me’ was featured on Dominique’s 2003 mix CD ‘The Sound of Young New York’ and released on Fine/Four Music in September 2004 with a Ralph Lawson remix (Sureshot electro sinlgle of the week – DJ Mag (UK) and #4 in Mixmag Electro chart. The second single ‘Hear The Music’ got a remix by London’s Mylo and was #17 in UK Buzz Chart. ‘Hear The Music’ comes out on October 18.
The Glass have been working solidly since forming and have remixed Rinocerose, Les Clones and D’ Boldiss on Coco Machete Records as well compiling and mixing ‘The Sound of Young New York’ compilations. Their album, currently in production, is expected out in 2005 and features a guest appearance by NY leather synth rockers Dead Combo. The Glass have just completed a tour of live shows in London, Berlin, Paris, Gent and New York.
